Description.
This piece was created for the exhibition “Aesop’s Fables: The Beautiful World of Fairy Tales,” held at Junie Moon Daikanyama until September 28, 2025.
I designed this lion to embody the proud and majestic image of a king. The lion’s mane and the tip of its tail are made from long fur, while the shorter fur is crafted from mohair. The head lining is made of linen, and the body is cotton-filled with stuffing in the belly.
The costume is fastened with snap buttons, and the head has a hole for a pull ring. The tail contains wire, allowing it to be posed and moved.
The crown is stiffened with fusible interfacing to keep its shape. A hair comb is attached for securing it into the mane. The robe is made from a glossy, brushed fabric with a lining, and is fastened with hooks.
Once dressed, styling the mane neatly will give the lion a cool, regal look. Part the hair to reveal the ears, create a spiky hairstyle, and let the bottom of the mane peek out from under the robe for the perfect finish.
